Canobie Lake Park – The 100-Year-Old Theme Park
Does a theme park get better with age?
If it does then Canobie Lake Park should be way ahead of the pack. But sometimes age doesn’t count for much these days.
If Magic Kingdom at Disneyworld is a 10, then Six Flags New England is a 8, and Canobie Lake Park is a 6. But having said that Canobie Lake Park is value for money and loved by my kids.
We took a trip yesterday and here’s some of my thoughts…
On Sunday July 17th and despite an overcast day, and the threat of showers and thunderstorms, we headed off to Canobie Lake Park in New Hampshire. The park is easy to get to, just a few miles off exit 2 on interstate 93. Allow an hour from central Massachusetts or from downtown Boston. It’ll take you longer at the weekends.
Our kids love Canobie Lake Park because they don’t find the rides as scary as at Six Flags New England in Springfield, Massachusetts. The park is also smaller as is the price of admission.
You’ll pay $27 per adult, and $17 for kids under 48″ tall. After 5:00pm all admission is $17. The park rides don’t open until Noon and close at 10:00pm during July and August.
Popular rides for our kids are: Boston Tea Party, Log Fume, Turkish Twist, and the Caterpillar.
At the Boston Tea Party you will get wet! And part of the fun is standing on the bridge after your ride and waiting for the… well, I’ll not spoil the fun for you.
Canobie Lake Park is over 100 years old, and contains many old time favorite rides such as a carousel, bumper cars, and roller coaster rides. There’s plenty of places to eat, although I find it expensive – but what amusement place isn’t these days!
If you’re looking for a fun day for the kids and close to southern New Hampshire then Canobie Lake Park may just the ticket for you to let the kids “run off some steam.”
If you’re looking for amusement for yourself or have teenagers then a trip to Six Flags New England will probably be a better bet for you.
