New England Aquarium – Big Fish and Big Film

I was busy this last weekend.

We celebrated the return of one of my sons from a three-week residential summer camp by taking a trip to New England Aquarium in Boston. He loves nature, the fish and the ocean.

On a summer’s weekend the New England Aquarium is busy! It’s a very popular spot for people on New England vacations.

But it’s a place we all love to go and check out. With three boys it’s a little tough to get agreement on places to visit. But we’ve always had great success visiting the Aquarium in Boston.

Located near Long Wharf near Quincy Market, you’ll find plenty of parking in the adjacent garage… and plenty to do.

The main attraction is the big fish tank with it’s coral reef. It has big fish such as sharks and giant turtles, and many species all swimming in harmony. But the other exhibits make for a great day out as well. Take in the Penguin islands, and the Electric Eel, and then there’s the Piranha – don’t put your finger inside!

But one of our favorites is the New England shoreline exhibit. Here you can pick up starfish and see crabs up real close.

And when you’ve done take in the Sea Lion show on Discovery right next door – your ticket includes admission to it. The newest attraction to the New England Aquarium is the IMAX Theater, where you can see big films on a large screen.

Some of the ones showing at the moment are outstanding. The IMAX is an additional fee but you can save by purchasing a combination ticket.

The New England Aquarium also has whale watch tours that leave from Long Wharf. It’s quite a show to see the biggest mammal up close and personal. The tour is narrated by staff from the Aquarium, some of the most knowledgeable people on the planet about whales.

To learn more about the New England Aquarium, and other attractions to see in Boston visit my Boston vacations page here. If you’d like more information on Whale Watching tours go here.

If you’re visiting Boston the New England Aquarium is one place you can’t afford to miss. It doesn’t matter what age or how many aquariums you’ve already visited, this one is different!

Enjoy the week,
