New England Winter Getaway Deals
This is the time of the year when many of us are planning where to go for a New England Winter Getaway.
After all, we still have a few months of winter ahead and one way of mentally making it through until the flowers of spring return is to take a mini-vacation escape.
I know a number of my friends and colleagues go to Florida or some other place as warm, but for many this is not practical, too expensive, or we can spare only a few days away.
Well, here’s an alternative…
As long as you’re prepared to getaway to a non-ski resport area then at this time of year many of the world class New England Hotels and Spa Resorts are offering very attractive deals to fill the rooms. And they’re plenty to pamper you with, with quiet and peaceful luxury, so you can feel like you’re in the tropics without the hassle of long flights and delays and a huge hole in the bank account. So what’s on offer? Check out these seaside places and packages…
THE INN AT CASTLE HILL – NORTH SHORE, MASSACHUSETTS:
Located on Boston’s North Shore area in Ipswich, Massachusetts and on 2,100-acre Crane Estate, the Inn at Castle Hill is a perfect escape for a tranquil respite from the cell phone and Blackberry business world. All the rooms are unique, and you’ll find snug beds, hearty breakfasts, and an attentive staff. A number of the rooms overlook the salt marsh, sand dunes and the ocean – ask about the view of a room when you book if you have a preference.
And if you want some fresh-air and outdoor activity during your stay then you can walk along the famous 4-mile white-sand Crane Beach, or along trails through the sand dunes, or even through the unusual coastal maritime forest. And the Castle Hill mansion is open to the public for tours.
Room rates at the Inn for winter deals start at $115. For more details – including pictures of each room – check out their web site at: www.craneestate.org
WENTWORTH BY THE SEA – NEW CASTLE, NEW HAMPSHIRE:
Just further north of Ipswich and over the border into New Hampshire is Wentworth by the Sea – one of the classic New England hotels. Now owned by Marriot and still lokking fresh after a recent facelift and odernization program costing $30-million, this hotel and spa resort overlooks Little Harbor and the Atlantic Ocean on the island of New Castle.
This AAA four diamond property is a full service spa resort and includes an indoor pool, whirlpools and spa treatment rooms and saunas. And when you’ve had enough of the pampering, and fine meals and luxury at the resort then the historic town of Portsmouth is only minutes away and full of museums, boutique shops, and restaurants, or head out to Maine Outlet shopping in Kittery, Maine, just a few miles away.
Room rates start at $179 and for more details and reservations go to their web site here: www.wentworth.com
CARRIAGE HOUSE INN – CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS:
The Carriage House Inn in Chatham is perfect getaway lodging on Cape Cod. Located in the quiet region of the Cape, it’s close to the National Seashore, Monomoy National Wildlife Refuge and plenty of nature walks, and only 30 minutes from Provincetown. And if you’d prefer to stay in the warm near the fire and watch the snowflakes dancing outside then nobody will bother you.
The Carriage House Inn is a six-room bed and breakfast with the original building dating back to 1890. The winter rate includes things such as fresh-baked cookies in the afternoon and wireless internet connection in every room, and you can even arrange for spa treatment in the privacy of your room at an extra charge.
Room rates in the winter range from $129 – $159 and you can get more information here: www.thecarriagehouseinn.com
THE CHANLER – NEWPORT, RHODE ISLAND:
Located at the beginning of the famous Cliff Walk in Newport, and close to many of the grand mansions in the town – The Chanler is grander and more expensive than the others I’ve mentioned. This is definately a place to leave the kids with family or friends, and splurge for a short break or weekend.
Like Cape Cod the New England winter is generally milder along this section of the coast, and so you can get out and soak up the seaside air along the Cliff Walk, visit a mansion or two, or just stroll around the alleyways and shops in the scenic harbor area.
While Newport is renowned for many fine restaurants, one of them is located right in the Chanler itself – the Spiced Pear Restaurant – where the meal and the view of the ocean are both enticing. Arrangements can also be made for in-room spa treatments.
This is one of those “you owe it to yourself” places. There are twenty elegant and individual rooms and the winter rates start at $275. For more details check out their web site here: www.thechanler.com
So if you’re in dire need of an escape for a weekend or a week, consider one of these four lodging destinations and relax and unwind and recharge your batteries.
