Yes, I heard about your fish opening season and the lakes in your area. I also heard there were some native American's who were going to fish one day early to test their hunting and fishing rights on the land.

I've never been, but I really like your article. I often write about happenings in Minnesota and area guides for anyone looking to visit Minnesota. Usually it's about golf since we don't have mountains here the ski hills are not worth writing about! We have a couple good ones in Minneapolis area, Duluth, and Biwabik, but that's it. The good thing we do have though is the lakes.. and lots of them! Last weekend was fishing opener around here.

I did the same ride when I went and I agree the view is stunning, and there are trails down from the top to base if you don’t want to ride down again. Didn’t see any bears though – lucky you.

Excellent post! I have been aiming all my skiing endeavors towards the Denver summit area and once ventured up towards Canada which was a nice adventure.

Its nice to see these struggling businesses come up with viable alternatives during this struggling economy. I think I might plan my next trip to New England to help support them.

Mt. Attitash in New Hamsphire draws traffic during the summer season. They have water slides that run down Attitash and they have the Alpine Slide which is one of my personal favorties. Take the ski lift up and alpine slide it down...great fun for pretty much all ages....cept for babies of course *lol*

I think it's great to see some of the creative ways New England ski areas are working to draw traffic in the off-season; the canopy and zipline tours that popped up this past spring at a handful of New Hampshire resorts are a great example. Thanks for consolidating a list of some of the more interesting destinations here.

Great post Cliff! I took the alpine slide down - awesome! It was a great day, and I’m glad these struggling resorts are finding ways of staying alive, bes of luck to them.

It's something that is beginning to affect a lot more places than New England. There is a lot of areas which rely on tourism purely in the winter time to survive. Lapland etc.

Luckily New England seem to well catered enough to entertain visitor's all year round, a lot of places won't be so lucky unless something is done!

Kind Regards,

Dave

The situation for the New England ski resorts is dire. There have been a phenomenal number of ski resorts closed in the last twenty years in New England. In fact there's even a web site here that lists over 500 that have been "lost" - http://www.nelsap.org/

That's a shame. I hadn't really thought about the earth's natural warming pattern effecting ski resorts there. Interesting.

I did the same ride when I went and I agree the view is stunning, and there are trails down from the top to base if you don't want to ride down again. Didn't see any bears though - lucky you.

I spent time at the Attitash resort a few summers ago and took the chair lift to the summit. On the way up I saw a black bear - wow! And at the summit there was an observation platform and you could see Mount Washington in all its glory - which I climbed the next day. I also took the alpine slide down - awesome! It was a great day, and I'm glad these struggling resorts are finding ways of staying alive. Thank you for posting this resource as I didn't realise there were so many ski resorts in New England with summer activities.
