Wolfe’s Neck Woods State Park is located on the seashore in Freeport, Maine. The 245-acre park is a part of a peninsular that lies between the Harraseeket River and Casco Bay. At one time this was farmland but it has since gone to woods. The park is a short 5 mile drive from the center of Freepot – and it is a lovely 5 miles. The town of Freeport, about a 20 minute drive north of Portland, Maine is better known for its boutique shopping, bed and breakfast inns and as the home of L.L. Bean.

Wolfe’s Neck Woods provides a quiet and beautiful place to rest, picnic, walk, and enjoy both the woods and seashore. There are five miles of walking trails, none very difficult, and a small section is wheelchair- and stroller-accessible. The shortest trail is 0.1 miles and will take you straight to the rocky shore. The longest trail is almost two miles. There is an Osprey sanctuary located on Googins Island a very short distance from shore. You can’t go on the island but you can see nests and the Ospreys from time to time. Some amenities available include picnic tables, grills, drinking water, rest rooms, and shelters. The park is officially open from 9:00 am to sunset throughout the summer. A small fee is charged at the front entrance. Be sure to ask for a printed map of the walking trails.
