Six Flags New England Gets Ready for Bizarro!

Six Flags New England ImageApril school vacation week in Massachusetts marks the traditional opening of Six Flags New England in Agawam, Massachusetts. And this year anticipation is high for a new ride.

The Superman: Ride of Steel attraction has long been the ultimate thrill ride at the Springfield Park but construction work on the attraction is transforming it into a new ride set to open on Memorial Day – the official date for the park to enter full swing for the summer season.

This ride will be Bizarro and named after a character from the Superman comic book episodes. The ride emulates the bizarre character with racing twists and tunnels flashing by at 77 mph, and accompanied by heart-thumping audio projected from the newly created cars.

If you’ve ever taken Superman: Ride of Steel then you’ll know all about the slow ride to the top and then the almost vertical plunge down, well this is all there still – all 221-feet of it – but then you enter straight into the first of two fog-filled tunnels, followed by twists and turns at breakneck speed. The 77 mph ride through bizarre constructions continues until the final plunge into the final tunnel and finally home.

Now remember this is still being constructed and tested for Memorial Day weekend – so you can’t ride it until then. But you can bet that like a new movie this will be hot and everybody will want bragging rights to be one of the first to ride.

So what do you do in the meantime?

Well, the park is open for weekends until summer – the water park at Hurricane Harbor doesn’t open until Memorial Day either – and there is still plenty of thrill rides such as the Cyclone, Catapult, and Batman – the Dark Night ready to make you scream or yell depending on your gender.

If you have young kids then Six Flags has plenty of rides and attractions for different age groups or adults that prefer not to have their necks or torso twisted or turned inside out. Personally, I like the rides at the North End section, especially the Blizzard River – White Water Rapids.

Six Flags keeps changing their ticket prices but this year a deep decrease for adults at $41.99 and a slight increase for juniors to $31.00.

They also continue with the Flash Pass scheme which alerts you by special device when the rides you choose are available for boarding – no lines and great for weekends when the crowds and lines are longest. This is extra on your ticket price though.

Plenty of parking is available but expect to pay $15 and of course you can’t take drink or food into the park. Of course you can buy stuff there – but you’re a captured audience so it will not be inexpensive to eat. If you’re likely to visit Six Flags New England more than once in a season then purchase a season ticket.

Despite it being an expensive day Six Flags New England remains the largest and best overall theme park in the region.

More information about what to expect at the park and how to get there can be found at our special Six Flags New England section here.
