Castle Hill Inn and Lighthouse Newport Rhode Island
Quick post today because the weather is hot and I have chance to cool off at one of the Rhode Island beaches. And talking of Rhode Island today’s post focuses on a place in Newport – one of my favorite summertime destinations.
The ride along Newport’s Ocean Drive is one of my favorite tours in New England and the Castle Hill area is worth exploring for its scenic lighthouse and the Castle Hill Inn and Resort. Both are distinctive landmarks along the route.
The Castle Hill Lighthouse itself is not open to the public but footpaths from Castle Hill Inn provide access to the shoreline where it’s situated along Narraganset Bay. The lighthouse is active and has a red light that flashes at night and dates from 1890.
In some more of Christopher Blake’s images below – see an earlier post we did on his Christopher Blake’s work here – he captures the mood and unusual perspective of the lighthouse and the rocky shoreline.

The Castle Hill Inn and Resort was once the summer residence of Alexander Agassiz – he sold the adjoining land for the Lighthouse to the government for a nominal $1.00.
The Inn has a selection of rooms and new beach cottages, which allow you to experience the superb Newport oceanfront views. Dinning lives up to the standard of the guest quarters and is a popular location for wedding receptions.
The popular Sunday brunch features live jazz between 11:00am – 3:00pm
In another Christopher Blake little planet image you can still make out the distinctive shape of the original Inn and the perfect setting for a lazy summer afternoon of relaxation and ocean breeze enjoyment.
