BSO Stars at Tanglewood in August 2010 and their Dates

John Williams ImageAnybody who has visited a Summer Tanglewood concert knows it’s a special event in a special location. Tanglewood is the summer home for the Boston Symphony Orchestra, and is the perfect setting for a music concert.

Tanglewood sits in the rolling hills of the Berkshires surrounding Lenox, a historic and picturesque town in the cultural soaked region of western Massachusetts.

Tanglewood is an idyllic setting for both classical and contemporary works as the relaxed and informal setting transgresses any pre-conceived ideas about who should attend and enjoy classical concerts. Listening to Mozart while having a picnic is something I believe Wolfgang would approve.

I’ve had the fortune to attend many concerts at the summer “Proms” series at the Royal Albert Hall in London and the atmosphere of sheer delight and jubilation from a summer series accessible to the public is mirrored at Tanglewood.

The second half of the Tanglewood season features some popular artists and old favorites. Herbie Hancock will be appearing with his Imagine Project on Monday August 9 and John Williams returns to Tanglewood for Film Night on August 14.  This year is the 30th anniversary of Mr. Williams close relationship with the Boston Pops. Also, on August 22nd, husband and wife violinists Gil Shaham and Adele Anthony will be performing together for the first time under the Koussevitzky Shed.

What a program they have planned for the summer. I’ve seen some Tanglewood concerts before and agree they are special and Lenox is a nice town and area to visit with plenty to do.
