The Mount Attitash Experience

Attitash White Mountains New Hampshire ImageThe Attitash Mountain Resort area in the White Mountains of New Hampshire is a three season activity center.

Well known for testing the skills of downhill skiers, this mountain also boasts plenty to do in the summer and fall.

As Labor Day weekend approaches I wanted to “blow its trumpet” a bit, and also remind you this is the last full week of summer activities at the resort. After Labor Day it’ll be open just for the weekends thru to Columbus Day.

Attitash is located in Bartlett on Route 302 heading out from North Conway, and deep in the Mt. Washington Valley. A beautiful area to visit anytime of the year, it’s especially refreshing in late summer as the cool mountain nights begin to prepare the valley for the changing season.

But for this final weekend of summer let’s concentrate on pastimes you can enjoy this weekend…

The Alpine Slide

Sometimes the line can be long to take the slide chair up but it’s worth it. Advertised as North America’s longest Alpine Slide you get to decide how fast you want to go. Two side by side tracks run the length of the course, and even though racing isn’t encouraged, pushing the limit of your control capabilities makes for a thrilling experience.

Water Slides

You’ll discover four water slides, including the wet and wild Sidewinder you can experience in a raft with others, or on a solo tube - just the activity for a warm weekend day.

Mountain Biking

Test your biking skills on diverse terrains ranging from cross-country riding along the Saco River, to advanced lift-service downhill trails on the mountain - bike rentals and safety equipment available.

Scenic Sky Ride

My personal favorite is taking the one-hour round trip scenic sky ride to the summit of Attitash. At the summit you can climb to the top of the Observation Tower and admire the stunning 360-degree view of the Mount Washington Valley. On a clear day, and if not shrouded in its usual dense fog, you’ll be able to see the radio towers on the summit of Mt. Washington. Also at the summit is a visitor’s hut where you can learn more about the fragile environment and the trails you can walk. As you take the sky ride keep your eyes open for Black bears.

Other activities and amenities include…

Other activities available include horseback riding, a golf driving range, bungee jumping, a climbing wall, and a 7,500 square-foot skate park. And just for the little ones there’s Buddy Bear’s Playpool. The lodge is also open for food and drinks.

I’ll be back in a few days after the holiday weekend to get you ready for the dazzling New England fall season so don’t forget to check back soon.
