September in New England Means Fall Foliage…

New England Fall Foliage ImageSeptember in New England marks the beginning of the fall season – one of the most scenic times of the year in the region.

Summer vacation is over for the kids, and parents are deep in after-school activities.

Actually, for me the changes started weeks ago when I noticed it remained darker for longer in the morning, and it cooled down quicker overnight. Sure signs it was August and autumn was just around the corner.

The signs of shorter days and cooler nights are not lost on the trees in New England either. These are the same triggers that cause the deciduous trees to prepare for their annual shedding of leaves.

In New England fall means country fairs, apple picking and scenic drives - an exciting time of the year.

September in the region has plenty of craft fairs, apple fests, and of course New England’s largest fair at the Big “E” in Springfield, Massachusetts. This year the dates are weekends September 26th thru October 12th, 2006.

Soon October arrives and everybody takes to their car to see the fall foliage. We’re blessed in this part of the world with magnificent fall colors. The climate and variety of trees combine to provide one of the greatest shows on earth.

I’m asked by many visitors to my New England vacations guide web site, “when is the best time to view the foliage? It’s a difficult question to answer. Peak foliage in the region doesn’t usually start until October, and it moves north to south over the course of a few weeks depending on weather conditions.

But I’ve got a resource at my web site that’ll help people with planning fall activities this year. It includes suggested fall scenic drives, fairs in the region, historical data on peak foliage dates, and much more.

You can access this special New England fall foliage resource by clicking here.

There’s plenty of activities to look forward to over the next few months in New England. And I intend to bring the best of them to you here.

Stay tuned to this Blog and visit often so you don’t miss a thing.

Enjoy this weekend
