Get Out and Enjoy Outdoor Boston Sports in April

baseball imageTime to sweep out the cobwebs of winter and watching sports from your couch or inside a heated and enclosed stadium.

It’s time to take in some fresh spring air at one of these events and venues…

As April in the Boston area means the return of some major spectator outdoor sports.

The Boston Red Sox - the team it seems everybody loves to hate at the moment - will have their home opener, the Boston Marathon is on Patriots Day, and the New England Revolution soccer team will play their second home game in April. And of course the Celtics - going great at the moment - and the Bruins are both entering the final section of their respective seasons.

I though it qould be timely to provide you resource links to discover more about these activities and where to pick up tickets if your travel or vacation plans are bringing you to Boston in April or sometime over the summer and fall months.

The Boston Red Sox - Fenway Park, Boston:

Some new faces on the rosta as familiar ones have left. But the core team of last year’s World Series Championship team has returned to dazzle and delight its fans again for the 2008 season. The home opener is on Tuesday April 8th, 2008 and the Red Sox look ready to go after their Japan and West Coast outings.

Already my wife is glued to the TV and chosen her spot on the couch for the season to watch her boys win again.

Seriously though, there’s an expectation in the air already that just wasn’t there at the beginning of last season. The Red Sox are the team to beat and you can bet this will make every game we play this season - and not just the Yankee ones - intense and under the microscope. What do you think? Drop me a comment below.

Resource List:

Fenway Park maybe the most recognizable sports venue in the USA and it has a rich and sometimes quirky history. For lots of stats and facts go to: http://www.baseball-almanac.com/stadium/fenway_park.shtm

“It’s just a great feeling to be able to play baseball on that field. It’s a special place.” - Cal Ripken, Jr. in Sports Illustrated (September 24, 2001)

Well, you may not be as lucky as Cal and play at the stadium, but you could always buy your very own handcrafted miniature replica of Fenway Park. I should warn though that the scoreboard alone will set you back $2,795! See how one man turned his passion into a most unusual business here: http://www.majorleaguemodels.com/

And if you want to go and see a ball game then here’s a place to get Boston Red Sox Game Tickets.

The Boston Marathon - Hopkinton - Boston:

The oldest marathon in the world will start at Hopkinton, Massachusetts and follow the same 26 miles and 385 yards route to downtown Boston it has for many years. There are plenty of spots along the way to encourage and cheer on the runners, but if you want prime locations at the start and finish or along Heartbreak Hill then get your chair set down early, because its free to watch but competitive to see. The race is always run on Patriots Day which is on April 21st, 2008.

The New England Revolution - Gillette Stadium, Foxboro:

If you’re a New England Revolution fan they you know Andy Dorman, Pat Noonan, and James Riley - among others - are all playing for different clubs this season. I was at the Revs chilly March home opener at Gillette Stadium and saw many of the new players and they seem to be good pick-ups.

The Revs have only one home game in April and that’s on Saturday April 12th with kick-off scheduled for 7:30pm. Also worth noting is that tickets for the August LA Galaxy and David Beckham game are now on sale. Last year it sold out so if you’re interested use the link below to check out ticket availability - but be quick if you want a good seat.
