Harrow’s Chicken Pies: A New England Tradition

by Eric. J Hurwitz
Harrow’s chicken pies are a surefire way to get in a “fowl” mood, in the best sense.

The Reading, Mass.-based storefront, in business for more than 50 years, continues to create amazing, old-fashioned chicken pies. The slow-cooked, white-meat chicken combines with the ultimate homemade gravy, resulting in a chicken pie that would even make Aunt Bee envious. The pies are available with fresh carrots and potatoes (highly recommended), or without.

Harrows once had a restaurant, but closed the dining room some time in the 1990s, to focus on the wonderful chicken pies. We never like good restaurants closing, but we’ll accept it given the chicken pie business at Harrows is thriving.

To complete this traditional food experience, we recommend trying the homemade apple or blueberry pies, simply delicious and the prototype on how to make fruit pies the right way.

Harrow’s is located about 20 minutes north of Boston, near the intersection of Routes 93 and 95. We’ve been going there for years and can’t get enough of the wonderful chicken pies!

Harrows, 126 Main Street, Reading, MA 01867. Tel. 781-944-0410
