The Yarmouth Seaside Festival – Cape Cod, Massachusetts
The Yarmouth Seaside Festival has become a staple on the Cape Cod fall scene over the Columbus Day weekend. All the events take place in the town of South Yarmouth, Massachusetts - a favorite family destination for summer vacations.
After Labor Day and the crowds have gone Yarmouth settles back into a quiet Cape Cod community until the weekend of the festival when crowds of 25,000 or more descend on the town. This is not your typical village fall festival with a few craft tables and a pumpkin stand.
The Yarmouth Seaside Festival has tons of events for kids and adults over the three-day weekend of Columbus Day.
What to Expect at the Seaside Festival:
Highlights throughout the weekend include the Craft Fair, which attracts top class vendors from around the country, a raptor show with Jonathan Woods, BMX daredevil demonstrations, world champion lumberjack shows, and fun-filled moments with professional jugglers and puppet entertainers on the festival stage. And you can bet they’ll be some rides, face painting, and food stalls generously sprinkled throughout the fields.
On Sunday the events agenda includes a 5K Road Race in the morning, the giant parade at Noon - this year’s grand marshal is NASA Astronaut Daniel C. Burbank - and the evening fireworks display down at Seagull Beach. Monday’s highlights will be the Sand Sculpture contest and the ever popular Canoe/Kayak Race - both events at Bass River Beach.
The festival is free to attend but a fee is required to participate in some of the events.
The dates for the festival are October 11-13, 2008 and the center of action is at Laurence MacArthur Elementary School on Route 28 in South Yarmouth. For more details on this event visit the Yarmouth Seaside Festival official web site here.
